BIO-LIF

A polymer additive raw material developed from industrial fibrous by-products for PP systems.

MTN POLİMER and a semi-granular BIO-LIF sample

What is BIO-LIF?

BIO-LIF is an additive raw material developed by MTN POLİMER to evaluate industrial fibrous by-products in polymer manufacturing. Its semi-granular form is being developed for partial virgin raw-material substitution in PP formulations.

Resource efficiency and circularity guide the development approach. A lower carbon footprint, lighter part or lower cost is not presented as a verified outcome for every application. These outcomes require comparative measurement.

Which polymer systems are targeted?

The primary target polymer is polypropylene (PP). Injection moulding and extrusion are processes for formulation development and pilot evaluation. Packaging, raffia, woven sacks and automotive interior parts are potential applications, not confirmations of commercial suitability or sector approval.

Automotive applications also require customer-specific assessment of odour, VOC, fogging, UV and thermal ageing alongside mechanical properties. Fibrous feedstock is not evidence of biodegradability, compostability or food-contact compliance.

Development status and technical limits

Work progresses through samples, formulation development and pilot-production validation. Compatibility with existing lines and moulds is an evaluation target, not a guarantee of unchanged use on every production line.

No universal loading level or processing temperature is recommended. PP grade, feedstock properties, moisture, dosing, screw configuration, temperature profile, residence time and part geometry need to be considered together. Ask for application-specific technical data and document scope during consultation.

How does sample evaluation work?

An initial consultation establishes the current formulation and target part. Evaluation conditions, required sample information and comparison criteria are then agreed. Sample availability and trial scope are settled during consultation; no free-sample or delivery-time commitment is made.

  • Current PP grade and, where possible, the supplier technical data sheet.
  • Process, machine/screw details and current temperature profile.
  • Target product, part geometry and service environment.
  • Required mechanical properties, surface quality and sector specifications.
  • Existing additives, filler levels and monthly PP consumption.
  • Control formulation, measurement method and acceptance criteria.

How are formulation and loading determined?

An unmodified or current production formulation serves as a control. Candidate formulations are compared under the same conditions, recording process stability, moisture, flow, mechanical behaviour and part quality. Loading is determined after this assessment.

If carbon or cost advantages are being investigated, drying energy, scrap, cycle time, logistics and final-part function must also be considered. General scientific references do not replace measured BIO-LIF performance.
